Here are a few pillows from Francis Jens Spitta to usher in the weekend. The inspiration for the collection originated while on a trip to Balboa Island and is the result of marker drawings. They’re beautiful, playful and a nice accent for any couch.
Homegoods: Velour Patchwork
Whenever I come across furniture accessories with a homemade feel, it gets the wheels turning- I’m motivated to pull out the sewing machine and make my own line of accessories. Over the past year, I’ve snapped several beautiful patchwork velour pillows and am ready to share the collective:
The first two bolster pillows combine children’s drawings of British foot soldiers and hand painted landscapes with purple fabric and gold rope trim. I found them in Hackney, on the east side of London at an indie designer shop along Shoreditch High St. The patchwork square pillows are from Butterfield on Wayland Square in Providence, RI and pay homage to the British flag by way of paisleys and peach. They’re soft, welcoming and remind me of an 80’s collection from Laura Ashley. The chaise lounge is from Merci in Paris and has been hanging out in my iphoto library for a while now…happily, it’s finally part of a family!

For the ikat fanatics out there, Gilt Groupe’s having a big sale today. As usual, their product styling’s quite sharp and is perfectly matched for this week’s east coast heat wave. There are some beautiful furniture and art pieces as well, it’s worth digging around if you’re in the market for something new.

For those of you who are in habitual flux, sites like Gilt Groupe, One Kings Lane and Shelterpop are there to recommend high quality merchandise for eager e-com bargain hunters. Over the past few months, these sites have flirted with home-decorating gurus to bring a more cohesive look to the product, adding a curated theme to each sale. Today’s collaborative effort by Gilt Groupe and Shelterpop is a perfect example of a partnership done right. Sheets from John Robshaw are paired with Jardin du Jour vases beside Emu re-trouve chairs. Heather Moore of Cape Town, South Africa has a knack for screen printing and illustration. While all of her patterns are captivating, this one in particular made us linger, wondering if the Duikers in The Sevilla Rock collection deserve a home in New York. Check it out for yourself, particularly if you’re on a home decorating hunt. You won’t be disappointed.

After visiting this year’s gift show, it’s apparent that ikat patterns are here to stay. Just as animal print’s become a seasonal staple in the fashion world, it appears that ikat variations and ethnic repeats are following a parallel road. Everyone knows the beauty that is the John Robshaw collection, however it’s important to note other designers making their mark around the globe. Today’s feature highlights Jules Pansu’s collection. Pansu’s a Parisian design house with roots dating back to 1878. In 1994, a home collection was launched and the line’s been leading the way in innovative design ever since.
