A Trip to Singapore & Myanmar

A year and a half ago, I went to Singapore to visit my in-laws and snapped about 500 photos. Top one’s pretty intense, isn’t it? As life would have it, my husband and I are heading back there this week as he’ll be speaking on a music panel about licensing and copyright law.

Since we’ll be on the other side of the world, we figured why not take advantage of the inter-asia airfares and visit a place where we can slow down, even if only for a few days. We’ve chosen Myanmar. I’ve read that it’s untouched and beautiful (and vegetarian friendly!) and I’m assuming it’s going to be an internet-free experience, though who knows…between the two of us, we both have trouble unplugging.

SO! Back to Pattern Pulp. We’ll continue posting, though things might be a bit lighter than usual. See ya in June.

Meet the Newest Contributor!

Fun announcement today! Meet Tiffany Iung- the sweetest soul who left New York for Paris living. We met last year when mutual friends connected mutual friends, (you know how that goes) and Ms. Iung showed us what nightlife in the 8th district is like. Surprise surprise, we found ourselves talking shop amidst the dancing, Monsieura markings and 2am drinks…and a year and a half later I present our DIY collaboration.

Always with her hands in a creative pot, Tiffany’s been running her own vegitarian catering business since arriving in Paris – an impressive (and adorable) feat – as she often sells from a trunk on her pink bike. Her column will cover DIY in relation to daily life and will have a Parisian spin (by way of osmosis). Enjoy!

Share Your Patterns on Instagram

Who here loves Instagram? All of us at PP are huge fans. The simplicity and ease of the filters has made the act of photo taking (and sharing) rather addicting. The fun news is that Dan, our talented (and patient) developer has recently added a permanent live feed to our homepage (!)

Meet the Newest Contibutor!

I’m super excited to introduce the newest contributor to Pattern Pulp. Chelsa Skees and I met at the Smile one Sunday afternoon after taking a cue from our mutual friends. After the fifth person tells you, “you have to meet this girl, your creative worlds overlap,” it’s a heads up to heed life’s roadmap…

Skees has an ever-changing sense of style which is derived from her decade-long experience in the fashion and beauty industries. Her creative sensibility comes from working alongside powerhouses like Francisco Costa of Calvin Klein Collection and stylists Karl Templer and Camilla Nickerson as well as her passion for working with emerging talent such as Julian Louie and Satya Twena.

Most recently, Skees has brought her talent as a merchandiser and buyer to the buzzy Chelsea shop, Story. Currently she works as a freelance stylist, model, and blogger. She’s also been known to advise fashion startups from time to time.

Her weekly PP column will focus on the many textures that feed her styling assignments and the role they play in the photoshoot. From inspiration to execution, follow along as she shares her visual stories.

Meet the Newest Member of the Team!

I’m super excited to introduce the newest member of the Pattern Pulp team. Kimberly Hall and I met at the design mecca of conferences, Alt, where we connected at Erin Loechner ‘s famed resource party.

Hall’s a master in textile design, receiving her MA from Central Saint Martins after receiving a BFA from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. She’s also studied draping and millinery at FIT in New York. Currently a Senior Designer for Womenswear at Coach, Hall is best known for her baking, not cooking, drawing, not painting and French, not Spanish.

Her weekly PP column will focus on the inspiration process and the role it plays in design. From inspiration to execution, follow along as she shares her visual stories.

Spring Cleaning at Pattern Pulp

As I’m sure you’ve noticed by now, Pattern Pulp got a nip, tuck and refresh yesterday! What was initially meant to be a little spring cleaning turned into a full-blown makeover, one that’s been a long time coming from a branding, UI, UX perspective.

Pattern Pulp’s content and community has evolved over the past three years and while the blog format’s been a fun stream of consciousness, it hasn’t been as efficient as we’d like in pointed search.

I’ve even found myself scratching my head while searching for examples buried within the database. Therefore, I had a problem that needed solving- and my hope is that as you refer to the site both for research and inspiration and that you’re able to get the most out of our robust archive moving forward.

Handing over version #8 of an ever-growing photoshop file to Dan my patient and rather speedy developer, he brought this first phase to life in under two weeks (unbelievable, considering it took months to commit to a design). And while this week is just the beginning of what’s to come, I’d love to hear your feedback as Emily, Dan and I continue implementing new elements over the coming weeks.

In the meantime, enjoy, submit and stay inspired!
