Out with the old, in with the new. The old lukoil station’s been under construction for a few weeks. Padding the construction with a little art, this mural recently appeared. Assuming it’s about to get a lot more colorful. Will keep you posted!
Twitter Influencer: Camille Rose Garcia
Camille Rose Garcia grew up surrounded by art, Disneyland and punk rock. At 14, she began working on murals with her mother in her hometown of Orange County, CA. The influences of fantastical happiness promoted by Disney combined with the generic life of suburbia and punk rock coagulated a trademark painting style that she’s become known for.
Garcia creates elaborately layered, broken narrative paintings of wasteland fairy tales that act as critical commentary on the failures of capitalist utopias, blending nostalgic pop culture references with a satirical slant on modern society. Her work has shown up in a multitude of galleries and museum collections as well as in the pages of magazines. She’s also created illustrated versions of classic fairy-tales and stories in her distinctive style. Her twitter feed is a great place to stay up to date on her latest shows and projects and get a few sneak peaks into her work.

The last time I took a cooking class I was 25, in Chiang Mai, just off an elephant ride and tossing pad thai noodles with my best travel buddy and ten other tourists. The experience was fun, yet daunting and I’ve shied away from serious concoctions ever since. Living in New York, you’re spoiled by the tasty, quick options on nearly every street corner. Though, I will say there comes a time when your domestic skills are tested- the in laws are over, you’ve been volunteered to host a dinner party, or just want to eat healthy, and you realize it’s time to get out from behind the computer, ease back on the job and learn something new.
Fast forward and I recently asked Leila, a very talented friend to teach me a thing or two about basic meal preparation. When she’s not concocting brand strategies and growth mechanisms, she’s sharing her delectable treats through the vibrantly filtered world of instagram and twitter. Her feed’s mouth-watering to follow. This past Sunday I dusted off my apron, followed her around her kitchen, took photographic notes and helped create a rather snazzy menu for a pair of hungry husbands. The results were awesome and I’m excited to replicate at home.
We made chipotle and rosemary spiced nuts to compliment our St. Germain cocktails, vegetarian chili with sweet potatoes, pickled onions and carrots and an extremely impressive jalapeno mac ‘n cheese. It was a pre-thanksgiving of sorts (at least for a vegetarian).

Accessories: Patterns for your Paws
While many of you are enroute to Thanksgiving destinations, it seems only suitable to prepare for winter now that Christmas music is playing on every radio station. While none of these are as practical as MUJI and The Darkroom‘s touchscreen gloves, they are fun and festive and easy to wear from behind the steering wheel. What’s your favorite?

Buy Some Damn Art (from Tyson A. Roberts)!
One of our favorite Pixel Pushers, Tyson Anthony Roberts, is selling six fantastic original mixed media works along with Joana Chavezon on the hand-picked flash art sale site, Buy Some Damn Art. The paintings are embroidered and heavily green with a style we’ve grown accustomed to seeing from this west coast creative.
It’s exciting to see the evolution of his work, as his style translates beautifully between 2D graphics and 3D paintings.
