Here are a few favorites from last month’s trip abroad. I snapped shots of three major categories, one of which was lighting. From hanging clusters to smooth and modern wood to cardboard molds and animal inspired sculptures, each display was quite interesting. Which one’s your favorite?

Named after Lucy’s close friends and family, each of her five kaleidoscopic silk scarves are bold and eye-catching. A true a graphic jack of all trades, native Houstonian and current Manhattanite Carrie Ruby has been a part of the creative team at Future Brand, Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia, The Brand Union and MBLM. For anyone who’s familiar with the world of branding, they’ll understand that a brand must represent quality, consistency and a good degree of uniqueness. All of these qualities are evident in Ruby’s pattern work. Be it sharp vector repeats or organic negative space, each and every layout is distinctively fresh. In her latest exhibition, Feathers and Wax, painter Chloe Early explores her fascination with flight. In her representations of gravity and the brief moments suspension, her figures are caught at the tipping point between soaring and falling.
These atmospheric “scenes” are set against high-contrast washes of saturated color. Early creates her large-scale montages by incorporating imagery inspired by her own photography and personal travel photos. Symmetry is created and destroyed as each work shifts between the abstract and the representational, Eden and Armageddon.
