Halloween + Skarfe + Lucas Grogan

Just in time for Halloween, we have these majestic beauties hitting the market. Lucas Grogan recently did a collaboration with the Australian scarf company, Skarfe. The collection is an exquisite combination of illustration, styling and photography. I stumbled upon Grogan’s work on instagram a few years ago while in Bali on vacation. He had just completed a mural for Old Man’s Bali – I was an immediate fan. Staying true to his blue and white color palette, this recent debut presents wit, humor and detailing on oversized lightweight cotton scarves.

Textile Infused Homewear from Walter G.




Not long ago, I got an email from a good friend in living in Sydney, letting me know about a new home wear line that recently launched.

It took a quick perusal of Walter G‘s collection to know that the product was special. Made in India and Australia, with touches reminiscent of Paris and Japan, these simple, yet textural collages are beautifully applied to home wear.

Founded by longtime friends, Lauren Bennett and Genevieve Fennel, the collection is a reflection of their travels and a desire to infuse color into the Australian home.

The line includes pillows, ottomans, lamps shades and textiles. One of the most interesting parts of the site, second to the product, is the collection of artisan bios behind the craft. Have a look– you’ll learn how the process comes together.

Trend: Monocromatic Parts




When you follow retail design, it’s hard not to love small things in mass. Today’s feature covers the monochromatic side of commercial clutter. Using texture and shape to create depth, each of these installations keeps the eye roving.

This black sculpture by Louise Nevelson is part of the permanent collection at the Hirshhorn Museum in Washington, D.C. Each shadow box tells a story, inviting the viewer to get lost behind each shape. Using molding to fill their most recent window display in Chelsea Market, Anthropologie has created a white linear collage.

Simulating ropes using ceramic, the refurbished Westfield Shopping Center in Sydney, Australia tricks the eye with it’s fantastically intricate exterior.

Creative City Tour: Sydney, Australia




Ever since studying abroad in Sydney, I’ve had an affinity for Australians. From their attitude on life to their insanely good coffee to the style that’s influenced by opposite seasons, creativity’s always on the cusp down under. Last month I went on a scouting trip to both Sydney and Melbourne and this creative tour is the first of a two part series of my favorite patterned pit stops. From your first coffee of the day at Bunker Bar to rummaging through the fabric bin at Tessuti to knick knacking at Via Alley, it’s easy to see why Sydney’s as inspirational as it is livable. Happy New Year!




Dear Friends,

I hope this note finds you well on New Years Eve Day!

I apologize for my sudden disappearing act this week.  As many of you know, New York was socked by a blizzard of epic proportions.  As I was due to fly to Asia on Monday, I made a last minute switch and caught a flight to Hong Kong before the storm hit.  The change left me without any time to wish you all well.

I’ve been visiting loved ones in Singapore for the week and am leaving for a scouting trip to Sydney and Melbourne tonight, back in New York in mid January.

But fear not!  Beginning Monday, January 3rd I’ll be rolling out Pattern Pulp’s 2011 Designers to Watch.  We’ll have a mix of emerging and established creatives who have been most inspiring to us over the past year.

In the meantime, have a wonderful New Years and I look forward to touching base soon!
