A few more excerpts from British Vogue’s September Issue: Geometry through the lens of pink, salmon, red and ox blood. Vector mashups have been a mainstay for a while, though this circus vibe, translated through Anya Hindmarch’s bag campaign and Cara Delevingne’s quirky Comme des Garcons jacket, gives us a fresh, playful vision. Get used to seeing this color combo, it’ll be dominating Fall wardrobes before you know it.
Some food for thought this Friday morning. We all know colors convey mood. Red’s often used to elicit hunger or immediacy, green represents nature, but also purchasing power (did you know that best selling book covers are often green) and blue is well known for it’s calming effects. Psychology’s long played a valuable role in determining physical reactions. Adam Alter presents a fascinating case for pink and it’s history in education AND penitentiaries. Have a watch.
Who here’s a collector of beautiful things? Living in New York, it’s a challenge storing every tote, invite, business card and piece of paper packaging that’s well designed, let alone clothing from a decade ago. I guess you could say I’m a bit of a hoarder. While cleaning up yesterday, I realized I have several French branded tote bags. They all incorporate hot pink. Here are two favorites. The cotton and ribbon one at the top is from Des Petits Hauts and the one below is a soft durable linen from Maison & Objet. Both have a cool whimsy to them, wouldn’t you say?
Hot pink is one of those amazing colors that I don’t want to taint by talking about. But coming off of a month-long project that allowed me to only look at kelly green, black and white, I had to balance my brain by giving “hawt” pink some love. For me, it’s the perfect accent: I incorporate it into my life as artwork on my walls and in my accessories, but remain muted in tone otherwise. I’m always amazed and impressed by people who can use it as a focal point and primary color. Check out these links and get your hawt pink on!
