I’ve always been a fan of Laurie Rosenwald’s work. Her lines are bold and her animations are clever (and extremely New York centric). Here’s a pattern-themed short for Bloomingdales to kick off the week and get you thinking about Fall. Enjoy!
Last night, I got an note from my friend Laurie titled, Patterny Things. It’s not so uncommon, you know, getting emails like this, as everyone from friends, to past teachers, to coworkers and press people share links along on a near-daily-basis. When Laurie gets excited about something though, I listen up.
The Pattern Foundry‘s doing something cool. They’re not encouraging you to buy textured accessories, they want a greater commitment- they want you installing patterned motifs within the architecture of your home.
From tiling and carpeting to ceramics and woodworking, this collective of UK craftspeople share a common interest in all-things decorative. Have a look at their site, as it might inspire you to refresh and revisit your home basics.
For those of you who don’t know about Laurie Rosenwald, you’re missing out on a whole world of wit and creativity. I was first introduced to her at the PSFK conference several years ago and she blew the audience away with stories from her workshop, How to Make Mistakes on Purpose.
Ikea’s latest collection showcases the work of Laurie’s Beckman students. The above design reveals freeform typographic bedding– a playful approach that snubs perfectionism. Everyone who takes the class seems equally inspired, this is my favorite review: “Laurie’s workshop was great fun, fast, funky, backwards and rewarding! Cool lady!”
