Street Finds: Typographic Textures

Today’s post is New York centric, typographic and choc full of texture. After coming down from the high that’s been New York Fashion week, I’m here to share a snapshot from Milk Studios‘ kick off event. I had the good fortune of tagging along with Stephen Budd, a friend who was over from London. In between hearing The National and looking for a lost jacket in coat check, one of my favorite moments of the night was laying eyes on the typographic decor.

Bringing type to life with knitting needles rather than life-sized decals, Donna Wilson, of the UK was commissioned to interpret the New York Times infamous logo this past October. The patterns are mismatched, colorful and perfectly combined. Keeping things fresh, monochromatic and theme-based, Jessica Hische, of Daily Drop Cap reminds us on a near-daily basis how to infuse life into text, an inspirational read for anyone looking to up their typographic ante.

Twitter Influencer: Jessica Hische

Jessica Hische always knew she wanted to be involved in the arts. Her love for graphic design and typography, however, came as a surprise. Taking pretty much every art-related class in college, she soon found herself in a design class and fell in love with the genre. Before she knew it, she was neglecting other schoolwork for design projects. Wise and talented at a young age, she notes, “a good way to figure out your passions are to look at what you do when you’re procrastinating from everything else.” Her twitter feed clearly reveals her passion for her work and all things creative, as she shares interesting and informative sites, ideas and events. Anything but a bore, find out what’s made her as popular on twitter as in the design world.

One a Day Patterns from Elena Giavaldi

After emerging from the black hole of distraction that is twitter, I can happily justify the past half hour, as a chain of clicks, originating from Julia Rothman, lead me to the Italian graphic designer, Elena Giavaldi. Her work is wonderful – sharp, crisp and interesting with quirky variety throughout. Giavaldi’s latest project, One Day, One Pattern couldn’t be more appropriate for Pattern Pulp, and reminds me a bit of Jessica Hische‘s Daily Drop Cap Project. So much regularly scheduled art to look forward to, very exciting for those seeking to be inspired!
