Assouline Book Sale

If you’re anything like me, your bookshelves are overflowing with over-sized glossy bricks. For this week only, Assouline Publishing has decided to run a sale on 19 of their beautiful lifestyle books via Gilt Groupe. Whether you’re looking for inspiration, a gift or just love flipping through the large beautiful photography, it’s worth checking out. Pricing starts at $23 and goes up from there.

Event: Yarnz Sample Sale

Over the past few months, we’ve grown rather fond of Gilt Groupe. It appears we’re not alone, as they’re expected to rake in more than $500 million in revenue in 2010, 20 times what they reaped in 2008. Not bad for an internet start up born at the heart of the recession. Today marks the start of the Yarnz sample sale and we have to say that we’re completely smitten with the patterns on these amazing cashmere scarves. The prints range from artistic and abstract to graphic and playful.

Budget: Appreciating Adidas

Mainstream men’s fashion rarely takes the risks that women’s fashion is applauded for, though every now and then the majors go out on a limb and surprise us.  This time, Adidas Consortium has us smiling, as they’ve taken a nod from ALife’s playbook with their random assortment of materials and styles.  On account of our cut and pasting, this round up hardly looks like a cohesive collection, though Gilt Groupe has photographed a greater assortment and is offering them all at a steep discount.  Check out their on-line sample sale to add a bit of zing to your wardrobe.

Homegoods: Budget Friendly Bears

Over the past few months, we’ve jumped on the online sample bandwagon.  Though many of the wares from Gilt Group, Rue la la and One Kings Lane don’t necessarily bring us to hit the “purchase” button, today’s KUMA collection of teddy bears from Areaware, via One Kings Lane, have us in a buyer’s conundrum. This collection, designed by Ross Menuez, a Pattern Pulp favorite, is chock full of whimsically modern cuddly accessories.  Additionally, the collection is comprised of organic cotton and printed with soy-based ink. Aside from the markdown, ease of purchase, and environmentally friendly ethos, we’re certain these bears will put a smile on anyone’s face, young or old.

Beauty Marketing & High-Heeled Houndstooth

The 50th anniversary of Barbie has ushered in product upon product over the past year.  From Karl Lagerfeld’s Colette exhibition in March, to the above Stila compact that’s currently on sale at Gilt Groupe, Barbie’s impact upon the commercial design community has deeply influenced patterns over the past season.  As we pointed out in mid April, houndstooth is a staple many artists take the liberty of altering. Here we have a high heel repeat that’s a refreshing reminder of how one can merge stiff commercial marketing guidelines with creative themes and a colorful palette.
