Paridust: Where Fashion Meets Art

I stumbled upon Pari Ehsan’s instagram feed last night while procrastinating before bed. I clicked on her photo, and was completely taken by the art and color fields that followed.

Ehsan claims the stark minimalism that’s synonymous with gallery spaces. She merges herself within geometric rooms to create energy between herself, her outfits and the objects. Her presence paired with the square layout of Instagram produces a story – one that’s thoughtfully aware, if not a bit reserved. The minimalism or maximalism used in the styling works beautifully in the series. Creative Ensambles & Art Basel

As the art and fashion worlds descend upon Miami this week, you can bet that the clothing will mirror the gallery exhibitions. Beyond interesting styling, there are patterns and textiles that are truly going the distance this season, presenting themselves are works of art. Budget Friendly Prints from Europe

I recently returned from eight days in London and Spain…which were a dream…after combatting the jet lag, of course. These patterns are just a few of many that I snapped while in Marylebone, Mallorca, Ibiza and Barcelona…the top left is of a door in Ibiza that shares a striking resemblance to a moire pattern. The second “wind and energy” print is from the Swedish store, And Other Stories (a personal favorite). There’s a simplicity to it that I just love. The bottom left is a new release from Zara, but I swear it looks like a Marni duplicate…can anyone confirm? The last print is from Monki, another Swedish store geared towards the young at heart with a few sophisticated basics (think Aritzia). I love the neon.

The Born Free Campaign

While thumbing through instagram last night, I came across this wonderful campaign and collection. Has anyone else heard of Born Free? Im sure many of you have…as it’s overtaken the homepage of Shopbop and is a fashion collaboration of epic proportions.

Wangechi Mutu, a celebrated Kenyan-born, NYC based artist, has shared several of her prints with fashion industry greats, including Celine, Prada, Lem Lem, DKNY, Chloe, Alexander McQueen, Carolina Herrera, Isabel Marant and more, to create a mother/child collection and awareness campaign.

This mission is a private-sector led initiative with one goal: to end transmission of HIV from mothers to children by the end of 2015. Born Free invests in people, time and business acumen to significantly accelerate the pace toward elimination in African countries most affected by this issue. Where Art, Fashion & Retail Meet

How magnificent are these window displays? Bergdorf Goodman’s hit it again, with a truly spectacular collection to beckon the Spring season. Following my personal mantra, that inspiration is rooted in the world of art and politics (and is eventually translated for the masses), the luxury department store has tapped 10 artists, creating one of it’s most successful collaborations to date.

It’s exciting to turn a new generation of artists loose in our windows. We like the idea of using our windows as an evolving gallery to reflect the synergy of art and fashion, says Linda Fargo, Bergdorf’s SVP. If you live in New York and haven’t been by to see the spectacle, put it on your to-do list, and if you live beyond Manhattan, check out these talented artists, they’re making waves today.
