Shoes, Stars & Stripes for the 4th!

saint_laurent_stars_stripes

In the vein of our upcoming holiday weekend, it’s hard not to share these fabulous sneakers from Saint Laurent. Amusingly, they’re French, not American, though they carry the essence of American patriotism that’s also reminiscent of Wonder Woman…right? Super fun, yet a serious splurge.

Enjoy the long holiday weekend in whatever sneakers you may or may not be wearing and happy 4th to you all!

Color: East Coast Americana

We took a bit of a break in our postings last week to readjust, clean house and catch up. Hopefully you enjoyed your down time as well- be it by a beach, on a bike or reading the newspaper under a fan. I stayed in Manhattan over the 4th and aside from the extreme heat, it was nice to pop around an empty city. One of the highlights entailed biking down the Westside Highway during the fireworks show when they shut it down to cars. Another was a potluck picnic in Carl Schurz’s park (that’s my friend Lisa) and our favorite adventure entailed wedding celebrations in the Catskills. Here are a few photos…and a palette to match.

Happy Fourth (or Fifth)!

While we don’t usually go missing without a heads up, this week was a fly-by-the-seat-of-your-pants week in terms of hopping the ferry for the beach. Thanks to a Sunday night of scouring Craigslist for cancelled trips, we scooped up a little last minute gem. Cheers to instant gratification and a nice work/play balance. Anyhow. Wherever you may be- have a wonderful week, we’ll be back very soon.

An Aquatic 4th of July

[slideshow id=19]

Here’s hoping you had a restful weekend! There’s a bit of irony in today’s slideshow.

This collection is part of the Washed Up, Project Ocean window exhibit at Selfridges that I shot while visiting London a few weeks ago. In the spirit of summer fun, awareness and celebrating the ocean’s treasures, this theme couldn’t be more appropriate to usher in the second half of summer, particularly in light of Montana’s Yellowstone oil spill.

July 4th: Patterns Getting Patriotic

usa-patterns

After spending the week moseying around Fire Island and absorbing 4th of July festivities, we found it only fit to provide a brief wrap up of quirky, inspirational, red, white and blue imagery that speaks to the patriotic side of patterns.  Be it indifferent hipsters styled in caricature body-builder gear, Budweiser’s subtle marketing displays, or this uniquely camouflaged fish, all hints of the American flag are welcome when it comes to ushering in summer, sand and barbecue.
