“All that I see stays in my mind waiting to be unearthed during the creative process,” explains Italian artist, Flavio Melchiorre. When you get lost in Melchiorre’s mesmerizing patterns you certainly see what he means. His colorful designs draw from all elements of everyday life, particularly street art. Seeing his bold designs, you can easily imagine him walking by a splash of graffiti and filing it in his mind for years before it manifests into works such as Tips’ n Trips, Wild Things, or his recent iPhone skin for Grove. Matt W. Moore
It’s no secret that Matt W. Moore’s vectorfunk graphics are single-handedly influencing an entire generation of artists. His fusion of graffiti, graphic design and watercolor are upbeat, intricate and extremely brand friendly. His work has appeared in countless magazines and print campaigns, from Nike and Burton to Wired and Mountain Dew. Moore’s Design and Illustration studio, MWM Graphics, is based in Portland, Maine and exhibits in galleries throughout the world, collaborating with clients from all sectors. Beci Orpin
The creative work flowing from Beci Orpin’s Melbourne studio is incredible. Just click on Orpin’s site and you’ll understand that her world of graphic design is more magical than most. A menagerie of colorful mushrooms and fantasy-inspired silhouettes march across the screen with unabashed purpose, preparing the user for a unique mix of commercially friendly, widely applicable artwork. While many are familiar with Orpin through her women’s clothing line, Princess Tina, she has recently closed the doors on this decade long endeavor in an effort to focus on other creative pursuits. Karen Mainenti
Karen Mainenti has one of those jobs many of us crafty people dream about- she designs for Martha Stewart Living’s holiday department. Her delightfully patterned textiles and accessories have been instrumental in keeping the season fresh for over ten years, evading the tired clichés this particular season can be known for. In addition to today’s Q+A, we’re delighted to welcome Mainenti on-board as Pattern Pulp’s newest contributor. We’re excited to see what she comes up with as well as expand our content offerings. A brand that makes you smile. In 2001, Argentine designer, Valeria Pesqueira, founded her fashion label, PESQUEIRA, with that simple philosophy. She has certainly succeeded. Her innovative use of high-quality materials, bright, fresh colors and exclusive kawaii prints would make anyone happy. Pesqueira sells her classically modern clothing from her flagship store in Palermo Soho, Buenos Aires, in addition to distributing to worldwide retailers such as Bird in New York, Le Bon Marche in Paris, the MoMA Stores worldwide, as well as Nano Universe in Tokyo. Pattern Bakery
Patterns are on the rise in Helsinki, as four very talented women have recently joined forces to found the design studio, Pattern Bakery. Beyond having a wonderful company name, Maria, Salla, Miia and Minttu all compliment each other quite strategically with a unified goal and varying creative backgrounds. After first discovering this studio on Bloesem, we decided to throw a few questions their way to further understand their design process.
