Owen & His Brown Paper Bags

I’ve been working from home this past week, which has me in and out of the apartment quite a bit. One of my projects has me texture scouting, so every time I need a coffee, I grab the Canon to get some high resolution imagery along the way. As you can imagine, I pop my head into every new nook and cranny that emerges in my five-block radius. This brings me to the newly opened Owen store on Washington St. While they were setting up yesterday, I couldn’t help but notice the brown bag wall installation. So simple, very bottle-on-the-subway-chic, with an Anthropologie-like application. I’ll forever be a fan of small things in mass. What do you think?

Breathing Life into Your Infographic

Check out this window on Madison just north of Eataly. I’ll admit it’s not my best street shot, though the concept’s interesting. In an effort to demystify a 2D floor plan, carpet swatches and string have been added to provide dimension, color and texture. It’s a valiant effort, and I’d love to see a few more interpretations.

Inventive Backdrops from Hound & INDO

Beyond the models and clothing, the backdrop sets the tone of a photoshoot. In making a statement, it can be one of whimsy, craftiness, luxury- the options are limitless.

Hound Design‘s latest lookbook showcases a playful collection of patterns from January Prints, accompanied by likeminded backdrops. Proving less is more and creativity mustn’t always be padded with a big budget, INDO Projects hit this execution out of the park. We love Julia Stotz and Brian Guido‘s photos. What do you think?

Retail: Hydrangea Headdresses

There’s something very secret garden going on in Manhattan this Spring. Floral headdresses have been popping up in windows all over town, reminding us of Louis Vuitton’s Spring 2010 runway styles. Above is an instagram I took at Opening Ceremony’s flagship store last week.

Adding a playful twist to their mannequins, Kate Spade’s added tennis balls to rose bushes, tying back to their spring merchandise.

Stepping into the world of editorial styling we have Lana Del Rey in a rainbow-infused rose cover up and an optic hydrangea dress by Something Else.

Bright & Energetic for Spring

Spring’s around the corner- from a no sock and ice coffee perspective (New York’s been WARM) to an advertising and merchandising rollout. The color palettes are vibrant and have been populating the digital, print and TV airwaves since Super Bowl Sunday. Launching a new take on design, style and influencers, Gap’s tapped several bloggers and online personalities to showcase their latest collection. Have a look at Styld.by, the very sharable home for this execution.

Continuing with the overhead vibrant theme, JCPenney’s recently launched an entire facelift, revealing a paired-down, optimistic, curated approach to shopping. The catalog is easy on the eyes with playful photography and bold typography.

Tying the theme together, Target’s latest explosion of color spot reminds us all to get moving and douse our winter palettes with saturated hues.
