Follow-up: The Spherical Formula

starburst-followup2

Few motifs are as powerful as the starburst.  We recently highlighted this symbol’s universal appeal and versatility in relation to logo design and beauty editorial.  Today’s theme follows a similar track with other inspirational layouts. This R & Y Augousti mother of pearl serving tray is comprised of natural materials, giving it ethnic appeal. Following a similar path, Kate Miss, a New York based designer, advertises her Etsy shop organizing vibrant necklaces in a playful circular formation. The French footwear company, Repetto incorporates photo effects to emulate a snowflake with their Fall/Winter 08 advertisement. All successful executions inspired by the spherical formula!

Web: Lonny Mag fills Domino's Shoes

The baton’s been passed, or so it seems, with the premiere issue of Lonny Magazine. Many readers of this site are probably aware that Domino Magazine closed it’s doors at the beginning of the year. While decorating aficionados immediately mourned the death of this inspirational gem, Michelle Adams and Patrick Cline, along with a talented team of creatives, banded together to create a new editorial vision for budget savvy decorators. Not only is the online publication a stunning compilation of work, all of the imagery is linkable- an extremely useful tool for readers and advertisers alike. We see a bright future for this magazine and are thrilled there’s a new player in town.

Trend: White Collectives

white-after-laborday2

Most fashion aficionados and style connoisseurs will agree that white is a signifying color of summer- one that should be neatly tucked away after Labor Day. Interestingly, we’ve been noticing blatant references that defy this social rule in everything from music and beauty to fashion and (most obviously) home design this Fall season. Be it a jumble of sound equipment for Jay-Z’s newest album, Blueprint 3, this decorative West Village door, Jessica Simpson’s latest fragrance, Fancy Love, or Bergdorf Goodman‘s recent retail display, fanciful elements ranging from classic to contemporary can truly pop with a wash of white.

Event: Thomas Paul Sample Sale

We seem to give One King’s Lane a lot of love here on Pattern Pulp, but it’s hard not to when bags like this pop up in our inbox! Today marks the start of Thomas Paul’s tote and pillow sample sale.  Paul got started as a textile intern at DKNY, then branched off as a colorist and designer for a silk mill, Bill Blass, and Calvin Klein. He then ultimately started his own line of patterned home goods and textiles. Each print is vibrant, thoughtful and a true representation of bold elegance.  Pop into this online sample sale for a refresher course on how to cross-pollinate your brand.

Trend: Linear Mosaics

Sequins are back.  Regardless of how much you love or hate these tiny embellishments, designers continue to incorporate them everywhere they can, in an effort to grab consumer attention.  This month, we’ve been noticing a linear trend throughout top tier merchandise within the home and fashion sectors.  Kim Seybert‘s sequined place mats are representative of an elegant approach that merges warm tones with gradation.  Adding a sharper edge, these Ercole mosaic mirrors from ABC Home prove fall colors are making their way back onto the showroom floors.  In an exploration of colder tones, Gucci’s fall collection plays homage to the disco ball, mimicking wild animal prints through the use of iridescent jewel tones.
