Trend: Cream & Cable

As winter stock trickles into our neighborhood stores and fills the pages of catalog mailers, artists and designers are finally watching the fruits of their summertime labors come to life. White and cream textures have become wearable masterpieces. This white sequined jacket from Flair magazine is as sculpturally appealing as this tubular dress from Dazed and Confused. Commercializing these trends for the masses, these textures are most appealing when applied to leather and knits. Secret Pon Pon of the UK and Urban Outfitters of the US remind us that cable can be anything but traditional.

Smokey Moods & Horizontal Textures

It’s always interesting when paralleling textures can be compared in different markets. Today we’re comparing the beauty and makeup design from Gaultier’s most recent runway show to Ma Maison Textile‘s home accessories line. The makeup is smokey and graphic, emitting dark mysterious moods. Interpreting this horizontal style for vivid bedding and pillows, these poppies offer a lighter alternative.

Color: Neutral Palettes

Color inspiration can come from anywhere and today’s palette is inspired by basic nudes and shiny textures. From shells to jewelry to makeup, each surface is outstanding, and configured in interesting ways to inspire. Dana Rebecca’s jewelry reminds us of the beautiful formations found in nature, just as Target’s new Pixi makeup line softens our pixelated skin tones. This shell clutch from Louis Vuitton ties the package together, combining both concepts, color blocking, texture and shine.

Patterns with Polli

Imagine our excitement when we first discovered Polli. The jewelry’s perfectly minimal, sleek and intricately die cut with patterns left, right and center. After you get over the initial excitement that is texture, you realize that everything matches both on and offline. Hints of Polli patterns are evident throughout the site, reminding us that a 360 package always wins over 50 versions of the same logo.  Maja Rose and Tess Lloyd, the brains behind the business, have set a new standard, as their Facebook and Twitter buttons are so well integrated, you almost forget that they’re different companies.

Budget Buys: Build Your Bedroom

For those of you who are in habitual flux, sites like Gilt Groupe, One Kings Lane and Shelterpop are there to recommend high quality merchandise for eager e-com bargain hunters. Over the past few months, these sites have flirted with home-decorating gurus to bring a more cohesive look to the product, adding a curated theme to each sale. Today’s collaborative effort by Gilt Groupe and Shelterpop is a perfect example of a partnership done right. Sheets from John Robshaw are paired with Jardin du Jour vases beside Emu re-trouve chairs. The patchwork feel is harmonious and decorator approved. The first 5,000 members to sign up will also get a $10 Gilt credit.

Budget Buys: Parlor Textiles

Today’s budget buy features Parlor Textiles from the home goods sample sale site, One Kings Lane.  The eco-friendly prints are a combo of modern geometrics fused with ethnic-inspired repeats. The palettes are muted, highly commercial and truly timeless. The brand was founded by Angela Clinton from North Carolina. Check out her accessories before they’re gone!
