Homegoods: Suki Cheema

Travel inspires all, and the upcoming Spring 2012 collection from Suki Cheema, the surface designer that once created patterns for Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren and Diane Von Furstenberg has aligned himself with Indonesia. Keeping with the highly graphic styles we’ve grown accustomed to, the latest reel of textures are reminiscent of mosaics and tapestries.

The pillows above are from his current fall line, and as you can see, the reds are evolving into a brighter paletee just as the repetitions are becoming more intricate.

Beauty: Nail Commitments

Inverted manicures, leopard prints and African inspired patterns are all a part of the photo reel on Hey Nice Nails. We’ve been watching several of these trends blossom over the past year, particularly the inverted manicure trend. For the allotted real estate, the textured results are impressive.

For more committed beauty enthusiasts, tattooing has returned as a high maintenance option, as noted by StyleSight‘s latest facebook report, referencing Jacci’s beauty experience on her blog, Being Perfect is Hard.

While the designs last as long as the nails do, the feeling of permanence (and rebellion) is still present, making for a nice semi-commitment that packs a punch.

Homegoods: Velour Patchwork

Whenever I come across furniture accessories with a homemade feel, it gets the wheels turning- I’m motivated to pull out the sewing machine and make my own line of accessories. Over the past year, I’ve snapped several beautiful patchwork velour pillows and am ready to share the collective:

The first two bolster pillows combine children’s drawings of British foot soldiers and hand painted landscapes with purple fabric and gold rope trim. I found them in Hackney, on the east side of London at an indie designer shop along Shoreditch High St. The patchwork square pillows are from Butterfield on Wayland Square in Providence, RI and pay homage to the British flag by way of paisleys and peach. They’re soft, welcoming and remind me of an 80’s collection from Laura Ashley. The chaise lounge is from Merci in Paris and has been hanging out in my iphoto library for a while now…happily, it’s finally part of a family!

Budget Buy: The Vapur Anti-Water Bottle

This past week’s been devoted to long hours of writing, art direction and ad agency deadlines. Partnering up with an old friend, I’ve shadowed her healthy lifestyle of mango snacks, yoga talks and this extremely cool foldable water bottle.

Vapur is a reusable, foldable, washable, freezable and a stylish alternative to the bulky bottles we see everywhere. They’re also $10 and up. How can you beat that?
