Illuminating Patterns in your Home

If you’ve been checking in semi-regularly, you’ll notice that we’ve been a bit quieter lately. We’re hard at work on a few new projects, so stay tuned, as we’ll be sharing more soon…

So, let’s talk light and pattern. These beautiful lampshades found their way into our inbox from Mod Pieces. It’s nice to see a mixup of sorts, as we’re used to seeing pattern applied primarily through cushions and rugs. The collection was produced in collaboration with Avril Loreti and is equal parts crisp and beautiful.

Color: French & Fluorescent

Who here’s a collector of beautiful things? Living in New York, it’s a challenge storing every tote, invite, business card and piece of paper packaging that’s well designed, let alone clothing from a decade ago. I guess you could say I’m a bit of a hoarder. While cleaning up yesterday, I realized I have several French branded tote bags. They all incorporate hot pink. Here are two favorites. The cotton and ribbon one at the top is from Des Petits Hauts and the one below is a soft durable linen from Maison & Objet. Both have a cool whimsy to them, wouldn’t you say?

Homegoods: Design & Divide

The room, that is. Who else is in the process of reinventing their home? I recently moved and am in turbo furnishing mode. Now that my office is also a home office, I’m attempting to section areas off in elegant artistic ways.

Which leads me to Custhom’s newest product collaboration, the modular room divider. They’ve taken their Offset Collection, a beautifully mismatched pattern and applied it to birch-faced ply to create one of the most elegant screens I’ve ever come across. What do you think? Trends in Embellishment

Whenever I see interesting embellishments, I immediately return to my bedding roots. After leaving my full time job, eons ago, I did a good deal of freelancing in the the home sector. After every duvet was made, we’d come up with accompanying pillows to round out the package.

When they say that fashion influences home, it’s often true and today’s round up, collected from Bergdorf Goodman‘s Fall Catalog, reveals monochromatic metallic circles, pacman-like mazes and reptilian spots. The hazy 3.1 Phillip Lim spread was shot by the talented duo, Luciana Val and Franco Musso.

Textiles: Rainbow Dye Treatments

Last week I attended Portable’s Curator Conference here in Manhattan. The topics spanned art, culture, travel and tech and each speaker shared stories of their successes and failures creating and sharing content through various outlets. It should be said that the branding was stellar and was developed by RoANDCo. Additionally, the watercolor-splashed videos and print materials were translated simply and elegantly onto their tote bags (which I love and will carry until it breaks). Some of the stand-out presentations came from Carrie Scott of SHOWStudio, Gia Coppola, an extraordinary young film maker, Chris Corrado of Capsule, Josh Rubin of Cool Hunting and Piera & Philippe of Refinery29.

So back to the point of this post: Rainbow dyed textiles. I’ve been a fan for a while, as noted by this scarf purchase a few years back. The above sherbet-dyed knit is currently for sale from one of our favorite online retailers, Of a Kind. It was recently produced as a limited run by Creatures of Comfort, based in Los Angeles. Expect to see more of this style in the year to come, particularly in the home division. This technique is quite friendly for seating, pillows and bedding. Are you into it?
