A few more excerpts from British Vogue’s September Issue: Geometry through the lens of pink, salmon, red and ox blood. Vector mashups have been a mainstay for a while, though this circus vibe, translated through Anya Hindmarch’s bag campaign and Cara Delevingne’s quirky Comme des Garcons jacket, gives us a fresh, playful vision. Get used to seeing this color combo, it’ll be dominating Fall wardrobes before you know it.
Every designer’s got an eagle eye. We’re always watching and consuming, noticing the details. Thoughts like, her eyelashes uncharacteristically long, to woah, the brim of that hat’s asymmetrical in an 80’s-kind-of-way, to boy, the tip jar’s fuller than usual – maybe it’s the pop culture reference, are on constant loop during my daily commute.
Designers are trained to catch the obvious and less apparent commercial trends, then track their origins. Today’s feature pulls from yesterday’s instagram reel. We have rounded overlapping rows in three varying scenarios: as a vibrant leather clutch from Antik Batik, as a silk 2D tunic on the street in Soho and as a crochet basket from Calypso Home. Sometimes it’s easiest to document, review then compile. What’s your strategy?
This post is more eye candy than informational, as I sadly don’t have most of the sources to share with you. That said, it’s spot on in terms of home accessory highlights coming out of Paris and Japan. Everything from the asymmetrical screen prints to the fluorescent stars, to the crochet seating, pastel palettes, geometric poufs and linen pouches overlap both locales. Does anything speak to you? I’d buy that rug in a heartbeat…
Brimfield just ended. Did any of you go? This round I skipped out, as I’m spending a good deal of the summer cleaning out my grandparent’s house in Rhode Island. It’s grown into a beast of a project…and the range of treasures from 70 years of hoarding could rival any antique sale.
Here are a few snaps from the last round, when my friend Allison and I rented a car and made a road trip out of our Sunday. The laundry list of homegoods ranged from mismatched linen chairs and rustic tables to sequin cats, art deco plates and antique maps. Between Bensimon, Vanessa Bruno, Sandro, Valentine Gauthier, Bonpoint, Surface to Air and Twins for Peace, we’re seeing florescent contrasts, beaded patterns, sport-inspired lacing, floral color-blocking, metallics, spikes and embroidered fringe. While visiting Tel Aviv last month, I spent some time exploring Nachalat Binyamin, a weekend artist’s market. I was on a bit of a mission. We we heading to my husband’s family for a few hour lunch, and I was on the hunt for a gift. As it goes, when you’re creatively opinionated and unclear of who’s on the receiving end, I go with something I’d love to get, toned down a bit. When I stumbled upon Merav Danny’s papier-mâché bowls, it was over and I was glued to the table for the rest of the fair. Merging street art, nature and feminine themes, each collage is a work of art worthy of extended distribution. I gravitated towards a torn paper camouflage bowl for the family and bought this cartoon piece for myself. Feels like Geoff Mcfetridge and Brian Rea had a baby, right?
