Creative Tour: Greenpoint, Brooklyn

Today we’re featuring a walking tour of Greenpoint by Sam Fleischner, a Brooklyn based artist and filmmaker. Having grown accustomed to life on the road, Fleischner’s gotten dependably good at documenting his daily travails. From his monthly photo logs to his site specific video installations to his most recent feature film, Wah Do Dem, a coming of age narrative shot and directed in Jamaica with his childhood friend, Ben Chance, all of Fleischner’s work explores the independent spirit and value of personal adventure. Fleischner’s not alone in this northern Brooklyn borough, as over the past decade, artists have been migrating in droves, setting up shop alongside their Polish neighbors. Follow along, take the tour and let us know what you think!

Channeling Thierry Mugler at the Grammys

Cindy Gallop put it best last night when she tweeted, “Watching Fergie and thinking that Thierry Mugler exerted unseen influence over all female performer grammys costumes…”  So very true. Americans love a superhero and it seems as though Lady Gaga, Beyonce and Fergie’s stylists have all taken a page out of this Frenchman’s sketchbook at least once over the past year. Working solely with color blocked solids and exaggerated cut-outs, Mugler’s fashion truly converts his subjects into mystical creatures. Interestingly, these performers look like they’ve stepped out of a gaming convention, proving yet again, that digital and reality are overlapping realities for today’s pop icons.

Trend: Effervescent Embellishments

When it comes to trends, there will always be an organic story to parallel a futurist one. Today’s feature highlight’s life’s natural influences and just how easily they can translate into salable merchandise. The gold clusters on this Donna Karan bag are nearly interchangeable with the champagne bubbles in this “Save the Champagne ad.” The grouping, color story and mood are accessory-friendly and quite glamorous. Not only do these mini sundials work on a bag, they’d also enhance home, beauty and fragrance as well.

Wanna Moodboard? We Have a Few Left!

It’s been a pretty gratifying week so far and frankly, we’re just excited to just keep the ball rolling! To kick off the relaunch, I designed a handful of magnetic moodboards with our signature pattern to give away to the first 50 readers who sign up for the newsletter. Turns out, we have a few left and wouldn’t want them to go to waste! Who doesn’t need a place to organize their tangible finds? We know we do.

So! For a chance to take one of these beauties home, please sign up for our newsletter and share a few details. It helps us tailor our content for you. And don’t worry – Pattern Pulp doesn’t share or sell any of our members’ information.

Get inspired!
