Twitter Influencer: Lizzy Stewart




Lizzy Stewart is a talented young illustrator who’s quickly gaining cred throughout the blogosphere. A 2009 graduate of Edinburgh College of Art, Stewart cites music as a main source of inspiration. An ardent fan of pencils, cardigans and Russian history, she also admits her affection for bears and tends to incorporate them into much of her work. What’s clear about Lizzy through her twitter feed, is her quirky sense of humor that mirrors the whimsy of her work. Regaling her twitter audience with the whims and struggles of building a business makes her a delight to follow.

Budget Buys: Jules Pansu Pillows




After visiting this year’s gift show, it’s apparent that ikat patterns are here to stay. Just as animal print’s become a seasonal staple in the fashion world, it appears that ikat variations and ethnic repeats are following a parallel road. Everyone knows the beauty that is the John Robshaw collection, however it’s important to note other designers making their mark around the globe. Today’s feature highlights Jules Pansu’s collection. Pansu’s a Parisian design house with roots dating back to 1878. In 1994, a home collection was launched and the line’s been leading the way in innovative design ever since. Trend: Graphic Mazes




If today were to have a theme, it would be maze-like, the perfect analogy for what 9-5ers call the “hump day.” Off the heels of Luke Ramsey’s playful collage-like paintings, we thought we’d bring the day full circle with another artist who is making waves with black and white movement. Hisham Akira Bharoocha is an artist currently based in Brooklyn with a portfolio chock full of intricate linework. While the contrasting linear movement all happens within a singular canvas, it’s amazing to follow the dead-ends, as they create 3D-like texture from afar. Piecing these black and white bits together as mixed media, H&M’s retail display in Paris reminds us not to fear mismatched textures. These busy prints are wearable, as evident by Isabella Blow, proving the timeless appeal that can accompany simple geometry.

Follow-up: The Spherical Formula




Every few months a new circular pattern makes it’s debut on our site. It’s impossible to ignore the force that is the target and the power it has to draw you in. Back in October, circles appeared throughout multiple product categories, popping up in the most unexpected of places. This season however, color, transparency and the all-important bulls eye are being used to engage, entertain and educate. Lexus has gotten technical with info graphics in their portrayal of hybrid horsepower. Combining circular motion with photography, the creative team at Dazed and Confused has chosen an alternate route for their Gucci spread. Regardless of subject, medium or message, the pinwheel can bring focus to any layout.

Budget Buys: Moody Hankies




We couldn’t help but get excited when we saw this censor scarf by Allsaints Spitalfields because it reminds us so much of the imagery from the Art of Conversation show in Berlin as well as our recent Spin it: Webcam Style post. Even more interesting, is that within this scarf, the details are censored. The faces are nothing but a blur when looked at in quick succession, though the design’s political spin adds an interesting and rather timely twist.

The Jack scarf is lovely too, in its moody swashes of color, looking almost like an abstracted appropriation of topography – a trend that’s been moving steadily through the ranks. We love these for their wearability, and for the fact that they’re not your everyday run of the mill hankies. The fact that they’re silk doesn’t hurt either, and of course certainly not the fact that they’re a steal at $20.
