Twitter Influencer: Jessica Hische

Jessica Hische always knew she wanted to be involved in the arts. Her love for graphic design and typography, however, came as a surprise. Taking pretty much every art-related class in college, she soon found herself in a design class and fell in love with the genre. Before she knew it, she was neglecting other schoolwork for design projects. Wise and talented at a young age, she notes, “a good way to figure out your passions are to look at what you do when you’re procrastinating from everything else.” Her twitter feed clearly reveals her passion for her work and all things creative, as she shares interesting and informative sites, ideas and events. Anything but a bore, find out what’s made her as popular on twitter as in the design world.

Repetition Elsewhere: Mending the World

This charming but dark little animation from Thoroughly Modern Tilly is about a determined little seamstress who tries to repair the world from the damages of war with her trusty needle and thread. Her stitches are beautiful and delicate in their strength to fix things, but just how stable are they?

Smokey Moods & Horizontal Textures

It’s always interesting when paralleling textures can be compared in different markets. Today we’re comparing the beauty and makeup design from Gaultier’s most recent runway show to Ma Maison Textile‘s home accessories line. The makeup is smokey and graphic, emitting dark mysterious moods. Interpreting this horizontal style for vivid bedding and pillows, these poppies offer a lighter alternative.

Book Review: Marian Bantjes, I Wonder

Marian Bantjes is a star in the design world. As an artist, designer, illustrator, typographer and writer, there’s few things she doesn’t excel at creatively. In making her unique hand-lettering, strange and compelling patterns, intense vector art and thoughtful prose, she’s always pushing the boundaries of what’s expected. You may have read about her recent quandary with Puff Daddy’s rip off of her distinctive hand lettered works.

Bantjes’ new book, I Wonder, is filled with old and new artwork created solely for this publication. The black and gold cover is as compelling as the inside contents. The writings and artwork are interdependent and flow together to create a narrative that’s a delectable feast for the eyes, mind and heart. Click here to buy.

Color: Neutral Palettes

Color inspiration can come from anywhere and today’s palette is inspired by basic nudes and shiny textures. From shells to jewelry to makeup, each surface is outstanding, and configured in interesting ways to inspire. Dana Rebecca’s jewelry reminds us of the beautiful formations found in nature, just as Target’s new Pixi makeup line softens our pixelated skin tones. This shell clutch from Louis Vuitton ties the package together, combining both concepts, color blocking, texture and shine.
