Rue Issue #5: A Patterned Affair

A week ago we had a pattern-heavy affair, otherwise known as a wedding celebration (!) I wanted to share a few pictures of the space along with our favorite details. We teamed up with Miya Hirabayashi and Elisabeth Fraser from You Plus me Styling and it’s all documented in the pages of Rue Magazine’s latest issue. Check out page 136 for the story…we went more variety show than wedding.

Also, here’s a beautiful video shot by Matt Sundin of a behind the scenes narrative of the night. It was a surprise and a gift to get the video and we couldn’t be more grateful. Thank you!

America's Color isn't What You Think it is




An article on color, current events and the American psyche was recently forwarded along by Robert Funk, a colleague of mine at The Color Association. Written by Graham T. Beck, the investigation is an interesting one. Americans identify with not red, not white, not blue…but Federal Standard 595 Color No.33446. It’s a great read, I highly recommend.

Trend: In the Details




Spring and summer whites are continuing to make their way onto showroom floors. As we dissect the lot, it’s worth noting the surface details that are subtly stunning. Offshoots of cross-stitching techniques in asymmetrical shapes have been a favorite at Thakoon. Replicating geographical land mass and knit sweaters gone awry, these two examples are inspiring graphic evolutions of traditional techniques. Enjoy!

San Francisco: Painted Roses




Sergio Lopez’s new collection of work, Painted Roses, presents soft nudes merging in and out of the background juxtaposed with patterns of feminine and delicate roses.

The varying positions of flowers on both the body and canvas hint at the dark, urban nature of floral tattoos, demonstrating how our real and perfect beauty is usually not visible or exposed. For more info on the show, click here.
