Budget Buys: Ikat Styling

For the ikat fanatics out there, Gilt Groupe’s having a big sale today. As usual, their product styling’s quite sharp and is perfectly matched for this week’s east coast heat wave. There are some beautiful furniture and art pieces as well, it’s worth digging around if you’re in the market for something new.

Morgan Carper & The Textile Arts Center




Yesterday Venessa Lau of WWD published the emerging designers round up featuring Morgan Carper as a bright new up and comer. Aside from being one of my most talented friends, she’s truly an inspiration to watch at work. I’ve witnessed her sew a leather handbag in 10 mins flat (from a single piece of of leather!), whip together new patterns for a collection and even style my wedding dress.

While she’s already working tirelessly on Spring 2012, I thought I would share this dress, which is part of her current summer collection, that I find incredible for a number of reasons. The foremost being the collaboration that brought this woven strip about. Carper teamed up with Brooklyn’s Textile Arts Center, a local collective of textile designers, to create the woven accents for a portion of her line. Here are a few pictures documenting the process.

Twitter Influencer: Angie Wang




Angie Wang is an illustrator and cartoonist based in Portland, Oregon. The young Angie recognized that she was an artist when she created a mural on her bedroom wall with her snot. While her tool set has evolved over the years, it’s her sense of wonderment that makes her work stand on it’s own. Publications such as The New Yorker, The New York Times and Nylon Magazine have snapped up her beautiful and surrealistic illustrations as well as galleries and comic book publications around the world.

She also has a fantastic fashion illustration blog, but that’s temporarily on hold while she works on her first graphic novel. Her twitter feed is a great place to see what she’s up to, and enthusiastic about. For more beautiful work, click here.

Color Moves: Art & Fashion by Sonia Delaunay




Painter, textile and stage designer Sonia Delaunay was a heroine of early modernist art and design. The Cooper-Hewitt Museum recently held a show covering the prolific artist’s work with an emphasis on her textile and fashion designs.

If you missed the exhibition, saw it and loved it or are simply a fan of Delaunay, the book chronicling the artist’s work, Color Moves: Art & Fashion by Sonia Delaunay might just be a dream come true for you.

A delicious feast for the eyes, rhe book includes more than 300 images of her drawings, paintings, designs and photographs, as well as elucidating essays written by Delaunay scholars. Snap one up for your favorite art, fashion, textile and color lover.

Typography with Pat Bradbury




Every afternoon I really enjoy my daily email from Where the Lovely Things Are by Mallory McInnis. The images are strung together with a singular vision that’s beautifully curated. Yesterday’s feature introduced me to the UK artist, Pat Bradbury. Bradbury is a student and is producing wonderful and imaginative work. Incorporating texture, movement and manipulation his designs rife with humor and expression. Check out his made up shapes and Mondrian rocket.
