Twitter Influencer: Heather Moore




South African illustrator and designer Heather Moore is truly a self-made woman.  Her line, Skinny laMinx, has grown leaps and bounds since she began it as an experiment in 2006. Looking to move away from a particular kind of illustration work she’d been doing, she learned to screen-print and sew and experimented with all kinds of materials.

She blogged about her projects and sold her designs through Etsy and before she knew it, she was receiving wholesale orders. It’s all history from there, as Moore’s business has flourished to include her own retail showroom, licensed designs and more. Her conversational and friendly twitter feed is full of personality and is a great place to stay abreast of her work and adventures as she shares quips about her daily life as well as championing the good work of fellow designers and artists.

New York: Mounds of Color




Louise Belcourt likes to think of her new work as “paintings of sculptures of landscapes”. Using a well-honed sense of color, light and space, Belcourt arranges mound-like forms into arrangements that evoke landscapes and cityscapes.

The mounds are piled, stacked and overlapped, simultaneously forming into bodies of water, mountains and buildings as well as creating a fascinating visual tension throughout.

Book Review: The World of Ribbonesia




Baku Maeda had always used brushes and pens to create his artwork, until one day he became entranced by the simple beauty of ribbons. The lover of animals then began to fashion a menagerie of creatures out of the bending and twisting of ribbon, giving birth to his line Ribbonesia and capturing the world’s attention with his delicate sculptural creations.

It’s always amazing to see the fantastic works that can be transformed from the simplest of materials and Baku Maeda’s innovative works are no exception. The World of Ribbonesia captures the beauty of Maeda’s works in exquisite detail as well as offering up tutorials in how to create your very own ribbon animals, plants and flowers.

Pattern Blocking Your Feet




Footwear’s always focusing on a particular detail, from the heel to the sole to the hardware, designers are forever reinventing the focus to keep trends evolving. This coming season, the toe is stealing the spotlight, from pattern-blocked and solid to studded and shiny. The tiger striped flat is a prototype from the Portuguese footwear designer, Tiago. The Louboutin’s an instagram from the styling adventures of Brad Goreski and this Charlotte Olympia leopard and lip collage is on sale via Moda Operandi for next season.

Adapting this style to metallics, Sigerson Morrison, YSL and Chanel are all on the same page. The fashion forward combat boot is styled by Leandra Medine of the The Man Repeller, shot by Naomi Shon. Love the lacing style, French all-around.
