A few months ago the button on my iPhone broke. I’ve sort of just been managing. Like, each press is super aggressive and every third click results in a screen change. Apparently it’s a known hardware problem at Apple which sort of blows my mind. Fast forward and a cute accessory later, it looks like I may have solved my problem. While I was recently in Singapore I went into stimulus overdrive- you can imagine all of the cute accessories one can buy for their phone in a mall bodega. I came across these texture buttons from Yettide and Rilakkuma and the good news is that I’ve temporarily solved my desensitized button issue, go figure, all in the name of fashion.
It’s easy to write about circles, we could probably devote an entire blog to their popularity, symbolism and frequency. Advertisers, packagers and artisans are forever reinterpreting the shape. Here are a few snapshots I took in Asia. The bullseye and handbag is currently the global campaign for Louis Vuitton and the hombre ties are from Alfred Dunhill – both were retail windows at the Marina Bay Sands in Singapore. The muffin wrapper is just a piece of beautiful trash and the cigar leaves are from a market in Bagan, Myanmar.
Forever a fan of a whimsical print, Gaby Basora’s designs for Tucker are a stunning assortment. The line was made specifically for Gilt Groupe and is made in New York City. There’s a nice little Q&A with the designer on Gilt’s blog, have a look.
It’s one thing to look at a beautifully styled showroom and wonder how on earth you’re going to replicate, it’s another to translate various pieces seamlessly. The second I saw this Missoni spread, it made me think of a family friend living in Australia. His living room consists entirely of layered rugs and pillows with wooden lighting and walls covered in deep red texture.
